چکیده

The brief review and discussion on statement of some observational problems on gamma-ray bursts (GRB), GRB host galaxies and star forming at smaller and large red-shifts: Are there similarities and differences between GRB hosts and the typical galaxy population – this is currently the main question for the study of GRB host galaxies. The direct connection between long-duration GRBs and massive stars explosions, GRBs and some puzzles of core-collapse supernovae are discussed. On model-independent observational cosmological tests – GRB rate and star forming rate at high red-shifts.

Gamma - Ray Bursts as a Probe of the Very High Redshift Universe Donald

There is increasingly strong evidence that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are associated with star-forming galaxies, and occur near or in the star-forming regions of these galaxies. These associations provide indirect evidence that at least the long GRBs detected by BeppoSAX are a result of the collapse of massive stars. The recent evidence that the light curves and the spectra of the afterglows of GR...

Stellar Explosions: from Supernovae to Gamma-ray Bursts

Current understanding of core collapse and thermonuclear supernovae is reviewed. Recent progress in unveiling the nature of cosmic gamma-ray bursts (GRB) is discussed, with the focus on the apparent link of several GRBs with an energetic subclass of stellar explosions, type Ib/c core-collapse supernovae. This relation provides the strong case that the GRB phenomenon is connected with the final ...

The Short Burst Revolution

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are among the most energetic explosions in the Universe. They are generally divided into two main classes: long duration-soft spectrum bursts, which last ~2 to hundreds of seconds; and, short duration-hard GRBs, which last less than 2 seconds and are spectrally “harder” than the first class. Over the past few years, the long-soft GRBs have been shown to be associated wit...

Using Spatial Distributions to Constrain Progenitors of Supernovae and Gamma-ray Bursts

We carry out a comprehensive theoretical examination of the relationship between the spatial distribution of optical transients and the properties of their progenitor stars. By constructing analytic models of star-forming galaxies and the evolution of stellar populations within them, we are able to place constraints on candidate progenitors for core-collapse supernovae (SNe), long-duration gamm...

What Can the Accretion Induced Collapse of White Dwarfs Really Explain?

The accretion induced collapse (AIC) of a white dwarf into a neutron star has been invoked to explain gamma-ray bursts, Type Ia supernovae, and a number of problematic neutron star populations and specific binary systems. The ejecta from this collapse has also been claimed as a source of r-process nucleosynthesis. So far, most AIC studies have focussed on determining the event rates from binary...
